the theory of emrgnc The theory of emrgnc is easily described. We live in naturally occurring systems of complexity. As these systems develop with increasing complexity, our ability to deal with them also must develop. This process of naturalistic growth leads to natural development, an emergence of newer higher order systems, as and when required. This is the nature of existence and of the continuation of existence. However, the process of emergence may become limited or blocked from time to time. When this arrest in natural evolutionary development occurs - we do not go forward, and we begin to go backwards. emrgnc is the theory and practice of the evolution of consciousness to avoid its opposite - de-evolution of consciousness, and the decline of the social systems that are reflected in this. If evolution is the meaning of life - then de-evolution may be seen as what would make those efforts meaningless. The theory of emrgnc that enables evolution and avoids de-evolution, is outlined here. In this theory, de-evolution (contrasted with devolution) is the antonym of emergence - being the arising of fragmentation, divergence and incoherence of form- rather than wholeness, emergence and coherence of form. Those that study consciousness evolution recognize that humanity is poised to make a momentous leap. The chasm that separates our present from our future is not like the territory we have traveled and left behind. emrgnc is just one way of humanity getting a running start at that momentous leap so that it too occurs as a natural transition. The counterpart to the theory of emrgnc is of course, the practice of emrgnc
