parables the doctor
|
the doctor A doctor comes into the waiting room and there are six patients waiting. The doctor asks to see the first patient who is there for a check up. The doctor takes her pulse, checks her reflexes, records her weight and conducts the usual tests. When the doctor has finished the patient says "Thank you doctor, see you next year". The doctor replies "But don't you want to hear the results of your examination?" to which the patient replies "No, I just came for the check up", and laughs as she leaves. The doctor shrugs, and is confused. The doctor asks to see the second patient who is there because he thinks he may be unwell. The doctor undertakes the necessary tests and when finished the patient says "Thanks doctor, I am sick aren't I." The doctor replies "Yes. Do you want to hear the results of your examination?" to which the patient replies "No, I just wanted to confirm I was sick". Before the doctor can tell him the diagnosis and the treatment, the man leaves. The doctor shrugs, too confused to chase after him. The doctor asks to see the third patient who is there because she knows she is unwell. The doctor undertakes the necessary tests and when finished the patient says "Thanks doctor, can I have this prescription filled now". The doctor replies "But don't you want to hear the results of your examination?" to which the patient replies "No, I borrowed a friends diagnosis to save time. I just came to get the prescription filled." When the doctor refuses, the patient leaves. The doctor shrugs, now even more confused. The doctor asks to see the forth patient who is there because he is obviously very unwell. The doctor undertakes the necessary tests and when finished the patient says "So, I am going to die aren't I ?" The doctor replies "No, not if you take this treatment twice a day for a week," and hands the patient a prescription. The patient replies "Thank you doctor, I knew you would save me" and leaves happy, but without taking the prescription. The doctor shrugs, now both confused and disappointed. The doctor asks to see the fifth patient who is close to death. The doctor undertakes the necessary tests and when finished the patient says "Save me doctor!" The doctor replies "I can not save you. It is now too late." to which the patient replies "I wish I had come to see you earlier." The doctor shrugs, and thinks exactly the same thing, and the patient leaves. The doctor asks to see the final patient, who is apparently in good health. The doctor undertakes the necessary tests and when finished the patient says "Thank you doctor. What are the results?" The doctor replies "You are in perfect health, but I am confused, why are you here? " To which the patient replies "I am here to ask how you are?" .... to which the doctor, surprised and relieved, replies... "Thank you ... someone has come at last".
