When travelling
in uncharted waters, the ships of the past always had a navigator on
board. These people had the navigation skills and direct experience
needed to ensure the successful completion of any journey.
Organisations
follow similar charts but all travel different routes. As we encounter
troubled waters which have not been traversed before, a Sustainability
Navigator is our guide.
The sustainability
of our endeavours depends on our awareness of where we are and the effects
of each choice we make on where we are heading. The navigator of old
plotted the current position and helped determine the best course.
The Sustainability
Navigator performs this role by enabling us to learn about our learning,
to chart a course away from danger towards safety, discovering what
we do not know, could not see and would not otherwise find.
